Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using Northampton Residents Directory. By using the service, you accept them. Do not use the service if you do not agree with these terms.

1. Nature of the Service

Northampton Residents Directory is privately operated. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections concerning people who live or formerly lived in Northampton, Massachusetts. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with a government office, court, or records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use this service only for lawful purposes. Neither the service nor information found through it may be used to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make an FCRA-regulated decision, including a credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decision
  • Scrape, copy, or republish service content at scale
  • Disrupt the service’s operation or security

3. Consumer Reporting Notice

This service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Nothing available here, including information from a linked search tool, is a consumer report. It may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Third-Party Links

Government portals and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, operate under their own terms and policies. Northampton Residents Directory is not responsible for their content, availability, pricing, or data practices.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. No assurance is made that the material is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will operate or return correct results.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of this service or a linked resource, including decisions based on records found through them.

7. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the service operators harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that arises from misuse of the service or a violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property Rights

The original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Links to a page and brief attributed quotations are permitted; full-page republication or systematic copying of content is not.

9. Changes to Terms

The terms may be revised by posting an updated version here. Continued use after a revision means acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Restricting Access

Access may be blocked or restricted, without notice and at the operators’ discretion, when a user violates these terms or abuses the service.

11. Massachusetts Governing Law

Massachusetts law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Records held by public custodians are subject to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, G.L. c.66 and G.L. c.4 §7 cl.26, and its regulations at 950 CMR 32.00 where applicable; those laws do not make this private service a government custodian.

12. Severability

If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
